WILD CHILD ARTS EDUCATION

Feral Fine Arts offers our youth specific programs and classes as Wild Child Arts Education. We integrate fiber arts, outdoor play, and story in public schools, private schools, homeschool groups, and playgroups. We run seasonal camps during school breaks. Offering afterschool programs in public and private schools for ages 4+ and ages 7+. Book a program for your school, group, family or gathering today. Wild Craft I

Wild Craft I

Wild Craft is a program of wild crafted folk tales, forest games, and art. Our creations will come from natural materials, including ones we wildcraft outdoors. As time and forest materials allow, our art projects will include nature journals in which we learn book binding. We will create wet felted geodes out of wool roving. We make primitive looms and seek out wild plants to make a wild crafted weaving. Come play and let your wild nature free! Program developed into two formats for either Ages 4+ or Ages 7+

Sun Catchers

Sun Catchers

Sun Catchers is a program of wild crafted folk tales, forest games, and art. As time and materials allow, our art projects will include flower fairies, forest crowns, and stick families using yarn and wood. At the end we will make our very own sun catchers with dried flowers. A momento to hang outside or by your window. Come play and let your wild nature free! Program developed into two formats for either Ages 4+ or Ages 7+

Where The Wild Things Are

Where The Wild Things Are

Come play with Max and his menagerie of monster friends at Sunfield this Summer! We will play games, enjoy walks to the forest, and craft while listening to stories about wild creatures and children. Create your own fuzzy lined crown fit for any royal child. Make puppets to play with and gruffalo masks to delight. Leave with monster horns to wear for any occasion. Ages 4+

Gnome Discoveries

In this arts enrichment program we will combine craft and learn fairy lore. Be prepared to craft jewels, gnomes, and caves. Create gnome houses and leave offerings to our fae friends. Games of magic and mischief will be played. Gnome and fairy stories will be shared while the children craft. Love of fairy myths, story, and a desire to learn handcrafts encouraged. Program developed into two formats for either Ages 4+ or Ages 7+

Planetary Revolution

Planetary Revolution

Blast off to outer space! We will learn about each planet and wet felt our very own versions to take home. Students in time will become young astronauts while exploring our solar system. Rockets will fire. Constellations will be studied and sewn. The mysteries of the universe will begin to be revealed week by week while we play games together. A love of the solar system encouraged. Program developed into two formats for either Ages 4+ or Ages 7+

Mythical Creatures

Mythical Creatures

Do you believe in dragons, fairies, and unicorns? Come learn more of the myths and folklore of some of your favorite magical creatures! Be prepared to felt dragon jewels, needle felt fairies, and sew your very own unicorn horn. Myths and folklore will be read while the children craft. A love of mythology, story, and a desire to learn handcrafts encouraged. Ages 7+

Bird Callers

In this childrens’ program we will combine craft and wilderness awareness. Nature games will keep us outside part time. When inside we will needle felt birds, weave nests, and wet felt an egg. Each student will learn more about their favorite bird. Love of the outdoors and a desire to learn handcrafts encouraged. Ages 7+

Felting I

Felting I

Students will explore the basics of wet felting using wool roving, water, soap and imagination. We will practice through a variety of craft projects. Potential projects include felt geodes, felted soaps, and spiral trivets. No experience needed. Ages 7+

Felting II

Felting II

Students will deepen their understanding of felting and explore needle felting. We will use wool, soap, water, felting needles, and foam. We will practice through a variety of craft projects. Potential projects include wet felted pouches, needle felted owls, and felt animal paintings. Some experience helpful but not necessary. Ages 7+

Felted Hats

Felted Hats

Learn the art of sculptural felt! Children will go through the process of carding and blending two colors of wool. They will then design their hats and wet felt them into perfection. This class is best for children with felting experience. Although not necessary to join the class. Ages 7+

Crochet I

Crochet I

Students will explore the basics of crochet using yarn, hooks, and imagination, and will practice through a variety of craft projects. Potential projects include finger-crocheted garlands, an octopus, and wristbands. No experience needed. Ages 7+

Crochet II

Crochet II

Students will deepen their crochet proficiency using yarn, hooks, and imagination, and will practice through a variety of craft projects. Potential projects include wool headbands, cotton washcloths, and crochet jellyfish. Experience with crochet hooks helpful but not necessary. Ages 7+

Knitting I

Knitting I

Students will explore the basics of knitting. They will learn how to do finger knitting and learn proper yarn tension through practice. Potential projects include finger knit snakes, tube knit finger puppets, and rainbow scarves. Ages 7+

Knitting II

Knitting II

Students will advance their basic knitting knowledge. They will learn to develop consistent yarn tension, cast on, and cast off. Garter, purl and stockinette stitches will be taught. Potential projects include a dishcloth scrubby, rabbit, and pouch. Experience with knitting needles not required. Ages 7+

Natural Dyeing

Natural Dyeing

Plants were once our only source of color for cloth and paints! In this class, students will learn the process of preparing wool for dyeing and then experiment with colors from the natural world. Each child will complete this enrichment program with naturally dyed fibers and a handmade wet felted pouch. Ages 7+

Weaving

Students will learn the basics of how to weave with simple and fun projects. Potential projects include woven rocks, stick loom weaving, and a woven bookmark. Ages 7+

Pokémon Evolution

By popular kid demand, we all enter the world of Pokémon together! With themed games, crafts, and outdoor play, there is something fun for everyone. Practice the art of wet felting and make your very own Pokémon egg. Craft and needlefelt a Snorlax, sew a Pokéball pouch and bring home the cutest Pickachu in all the land. Ages 7+

A Hobbit's Adventure

Gather at the shire and join this Lord of the Rings inspired childrens’ program at Fort Worden! Through games, storytelling, and hands-on fiber arts activities, kids will experience the exciting world of hobbits, elves, dwarves, and wizards. Belladonna Took will teach you how to make an elvish crown, Eye of Sauron, a leaf cloak clasp, a woven hobbit door wreath and plushie gollum. We will listen to the Hobbit while crafting. Everyday we will play themed indoor and outdoor games. Whether you’ve read the Hobbit or not, these projects will be fun and magical for all! Ages 7+

The love of Star Wars spans across generations and galaxies. Join us this Summer for play, story, and crafts all based on the Star Wars saga. We will listen to youth Star Wars based audiobooks while forging lightsabers, sewing yoda ears, needle felting ewoks, and crafting the cutest Jawa the universe has ever seen. Ages 7+

Gather round young dragons and find your dragon tribe in this Wings of Fire themed camp. Listen to the The Dragonet Prophecy while creating your dragon egg. Seek the SandWing treasure and craft your very own Sandwig Scepter and Eye of Onyx charm. Needle felt a dragon that suits you best. Ages 7+

Get on board and join this Harry Potter inspired children’s program! Through games, storytelling, and hands-on fiber arts activities, kids will experience the exciting world of witchcraft and wizardry. Professor McGonagall will teach you how to sew a felt tie in your house colors, create your very own house spell book, and felt a golden snitch. We will listen to The Sorcerer’s Stone while crafting. Everyday we will play quidditch. Whether you’ve read the Harry Potter books or not, these projects will be fun and magical for all! Ages 7+

Chamber of Secrets is a delightful Harry Potter inspired program. Play games and test your Harry Potter knowledge. Learn how to make butterbeer. Needlefelt your very own owl and rat. Are they Scabbers and Hedwig? You get to decide! Create your own invisibility cloak and more surprise projects. We will listen to Chamber of Secrets as we craft. Everyday we will play Quidditch. Whether you’ve read the Harry Potter books or not, these projects will be fun and magical for all! Ages 7+.

Professor McGonagall will teach you how to craft a nimbus 2000, make a pygmy puff and teach you how to needle felt your very own crookshanks. We will listen to Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince while crafting. Everyday we will play quidditch. Whether you’ve read the Harry Potter books or not, these projects will be fun and magical for all! Ages 7+

In this Harry Potter inspired children’s program we will study magical beasts and craft while listening to The Goblet of Fire. We create a Monster Book of Monsters, wet felt dragon eggs, sew niffler coin purses, and make phoenix masks. We play Quidditch everyday. For our final day we make Polyjuice Potion punch! Ages 7+

Professor Sprout is ready to teach you the magic and medicine found in the plant world. Herbology is a delightful Harry Potter inspired program. We play games, learn basic botany and explore the medicinal properties of plants. Learn how to make herbal honeys, teas, and infusions. We play Quidditch every day. Whether you’ve read the Harry Potter books or not, these projects will be fun and magical for all! Ages 7+.

Get on board and join this Harry Potter inspired childrens’ program! Through games, storytelling, and hands-on fiber arts activities, kids will experience the exciting world of witchcraft and wizardry. Let Professor Trelawney introduce you to divination, an introduction to trusting the inner magic of your intuition. We will make pendulums, sew dream pillows, and study the moon phases. We learn how to book bind our very own dream journals. While crafting we listen to the Prisoner of Azkaban. Each day will be a blend of craft, story, and magic. Everyday we will play quidditch. Whether you’ve read the Harry Potter books or not, these projects will be fun and magical for all! Ages 7+

Creatures of Sea and Shore (Summer Only)

Creatures of Sea and Shore (Summer Only)

Explore the beautiful world of the sea through beach adventures and art at Fort Worden. Spend the first half of the day at the beach with the Port Townsend Marine Science Center and then head to Northwind Arts for crafts, story, and outdoor games with local youth arts educator Mikal from Wild Child Arts Education. We will make woven turtles, needle felted orca whales, sewn starfishes, and crochet jellyfishes! Every day there will be crafts, stories and games to play as we learn more about the ocean and all its delightful creatures. Ages 7-10
